The Melton Wold Tannery was established near Victoria West in the Great Karoo, because of the lucritive hunting industry found in the area. The property is about 10km in length, and is home to a variety of buck (including springbuck), making it the perfect place for a tannery to treat game and sheep skins and to manufacture skin products.

It is imperative to cure skins properly before it is delivered to the Tannery, because it only takes 6 hours for the bacteria to destroy the hair roots, causing hair slip.
